John E. Warnok

JOHN E. WARNOCK

Co-chairman, Board of Directors, Adobe Systems, Inc.

John E. Warnock is Co-chairman of the Board of Directors of Adobe Systems, Inc., a company he co-founded in 1982 with Charles Geschke. Dr. Warnock was President of Adobe for his first two years and Chairman and CEO for his remaining 16 years at Adobe. Warnock has pioneered the development of graphics, publishing, Web and electronic document technologies that have revolutionized the field of publishing and visual communication.

Warnock’s entrepreneurial success has been chronicled by some of the country’s most influential business and computer industry publications, and he has received numerous awards for technical and managerial achievement.

Before co-founding Adobe Systems, Warnock was principal scientist at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). Prior to joining Xerox, Warnock held positions at Evans & Sutherland Computer Corporation, Computer Sciences Corporation, IBM, and the University of Utah.

Dr. Warnock holds seven patents, BS and MS degrees in Mathematics and a PhD in Electrical Engineering all from the University of Utah.

IAN MCKERLICH

Director, Mobile Internet and Content – T-Mobile USA, Inc.

Ian McKerlich joined T-Mobile USA in 2006 and leads the Product Development teams focused on the mobile web and content services businesses. Ian is responsible for T-Mobile’s mobile web portal — known as web2go™ — as well as music, apps and entertainment services. Ian’s leadership has helped create several important T-Mobile partnerships – including the T-Mobile G1 with Google, the first Android phone — as well as significant partnerships with Yahoo and Amazon. McKerlich developed the strategy behind T-Mobile’s developer ecosystem and how T-Mobile works with third-party mobile storefronts. McKerlich has served as T-Mobile’s representative on CTIA’s Wireless Internet Caucus and is involved in global leadership projects within Deutsche Telekom.

McKerlich earned an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from University of British Columbia.

Jim Banister has been engaging audiences at the intersection of media and technology for more than 20 years. He developed world-class chops during his five years driving digital media programming for Warner Bros. Online and spearheading its digital media strategy, first as Vice President of Production & Technology and ultimately as Chief Development Officer. He also designed and built the multi-media and post-production systems for Steven Spielberg’s Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Project.; and created TRW’s Engineering Visualization Center. For the last fourteen years, Chris has had the priviledge of producing campaigns at some of New York City’s finest advertising, and interactive advertising agencies. In his current role, Chris works across many of Publicis’ global brands including AdCouncil, P&G, Citi, and Nestle. As Experience Director at JWT and Executive Producer of Digital at Bartle Bogle Hegarty, he lead teams that developed digital capabilities and integrated advertising campaigns for clients such as Jet Blue, Cadbury Adams, Sunsilk, Smirnoff, Rolex and Johnson & Johnson, AXE, eSpeed and Johnnie Walker. Chris is also the recipient of numerous awards including Webbys, Cannes Lions, D&AD pencils, One Show Pencils, Andy’s, and Effie’s. Andrew Braccia joined Accel in 2007 bringing with him a decade of operational and leadership experience. His primary areas of investment interest include Consumer Internet and Software businesses with a focus on web search, digital media, online gaming and online advertising. Andrew currently sits on the board of Cloudera, the distributor of the popular Apache Hadoop open source software package, OpenX, the world’s leading Open Source Ad Server, High Gear Media, a next generation automotive content and advertising network, SB Nation, the fastest growing network of sports communities, and TRUSTe, the leading internet privacy services provider. Andrew also led Accel’s investment in Tiny Speck, the maker of the online game Glitch and currently helps lead Accel’s investment activity in the FB Fund.

David Bradford is the Chief Executive Officer of Fusion-io which has developed what many have hailed as the “World’s Fastest Storage Device”. The award-winning ioDrive is a solid state storage device that accelerates data flow through any corporate enterprise. David joined Fusion-io as a Consultant in June of 2008, as Senior Vice President in September of 2008, and as Chief Executive Officer and Board Member in February of 2009. Recently he helped convince Steve Wozniak, Inventor of the Apple Computer, to join the company as its Chief Scientist.

Jeff Bunker is the Studio Art Director at Avalanche/Disney Interactive Studios. He has worked in the video games industry for 15 years, and has contributed creatively to more than 20 video games. Currently, he is collaborating with Disney Animation Studios and Pixar on games based on their films and original intellectual properties.

Senior Interactive Creative Director of Saatchi & Saatchi

James has worked in advertising for nearly fifteen years, with the last seven being a digital creative director. James has picked up awards for creativity and effectiveness at the world’s best award shows including The One Show, Cannes and D&AD for global and local clients such as Sony, Unilever, IBM and Vodafone. James has a passion for teaching advertising. He recently taught a semester for Miami Ad School, previously taught sessions at Watford College (‘The Oxbridge of Advertising’) and founded Dare School, a creative graduate trainee scheme in 2006. He continues to blog and speaks regularly at industry events on both sides of the Atlantic.

John Corser founded Corser, Inc. in 1993 as a motion media production company specializing in marketing, promotions music video production, and advertising. John has managed budgets from $4 million for network television to $30 million feature films. He has produced and directed documentaries, commercials and promotions for clients including Mercedes, Toyota, Isuzu, and Nissan as well as entertainment clients like DreamWorks, Universal Studios, Paramount and King World. When John has produced television pilots for Paramount TV, ShoreView Entertainment and SPIKE TV. John, has produced films in 20 countries on five continents, including Arctic extremes and tropical rain forests—in all more than 200 hours of finished programming. He has won numerous awards for his work and has had an academy award nomination.

Peter Csathy is president and CEO of Sorenson Media. A 20-year digital media veteran, Csathy most recently served as CEO of Internet video company SightSpeed, Inc. Csathy engineered the company’s successful acquisition by Logitech, Inc. in late 2008. Csathy also previously served as a senior vice president at Universal Studios and held executive positions at New Line Cinema and Savoy Pictures. Csathy received his J.D. from the Harvard Law School, and his B.A., summa cum laude, in political science from the University of Minnesota.

Milt Shefter is President of Miljoy, Inc. a consulting and project management company involved in Media asset Protection and Preservation. The company’s areas of expertise include archive, library and warehouse operational design, fulfillment systems, shelving types and configurations, materials handling equipment, environmental controls, fire suppression systems, moisture control. Fulfillment operations and computerized databases with barcode tracking systems. He is best known for the creation, design and management of the extensive Paramount Pictures Asset Protection Program which included W world-wide inspections of prime assets in storage sites and vaults and constructions of state-of-the-art archival facilities on the Paramount Hollywood lot, in an underground mine in the Eastern U.S. and London, England.

VERNON WILBERT

Visual Effects Supervisor for Digital Domain

Vernon Wilbert works in both advertising and feature films. In his fourteen-year career at Digital Domain, he has demonstrated a knack for repurposing processes across the two genres and a talent for bringing the warmth and depth of live action performances to CG characters. Vernon joined Digital Domain in 1996 as a digital artist, rising quickly to character animator, CG/digital effects supervisor, and visual effects supervisor. He has worked on thirteen features including “Fight Club,” “The Fifth Element,” “What Dreams May Come,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Adaptation.,” “I, Robot” and “Stealth,” and more than thirty commercials for brands including Saab, Pepsi, Levi’s, Sony PlayStation, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Old Spice and others. In 2007 Vernon directed the Sony PlayStation game spot for “Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction,” featuring the adorable animated title characters, and in the same year supervised visual effects for the
award-winning Gears of War game spot, “Mad World,” created in-engine. For Halo 3’s “Starry Night” he took a different approach, creating a CG representation of the game’s environments, weapons and characters. Vernon reprised his role as visual effects supervisor on the 2008 Gears of War 2 campaign and served in the same capacity for the “Tron Legacy” teaser shown at Comic-Con in 2009.

BARRY WEISS

Former Senior Vice President Animation at Sony Pictures Imageworks

At Sony, Barry was instrumental in the successful creation of the animated characters for the Stuart Little and Spiderman franchises, as well characters for over 35 feature films including Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Superman Returns and Academy Award nominee Surf’s Up. Barry is credited on 58 feature films and shorts, which garnered two Academy Award’s and eight additional Oscar nominations. Barry is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Short Subject and Feature Animation branch Executive Committee. He is a charter member of the Academy’s Science and Technology Council and serves as Chairman of the Public Programs and Educational Sub-Committee. Most recently Barry was the Senior Vice President of Animation Production and Artist Development for Sony Pictures Imageworks. During his 14 year tenure at the studio, Barry planned, created and managed a collaborative creative team that produced the animation and created characters for projects, ranging in creative scope from “Open Season” to “I Am Legend.”

Geralyn has a wide background in the arts, long experience in consulting in the philanthropic sector and is active on many boards and initiatives. Geralyn taught Documentary and Narrative Writing with Dr. Robert Coles at Harvard University and was a founder of the DoubleTake Community Service Corporation. She also founded the DoubleTake Summer Institute that brought educators, activists and emerging storytellers together to explore the connections between service, moral inquiry and storytelling. A filmmaker as well, Geralyn produced The Day My God Died, and served as Executive Producer of the 2004 Academy Award winning Documentary-Born Into Brothels. She is currently working on building a school and boarding home for children who were born in the red light district in Calcutta.

Spencer Eccles has been involved with web-based software and materials technology companies in the U.S. and abroad. In 1997 he served on the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games and oversaw the premier Olympic downhill event as well as all of the alpine Paralympic competitions held at Snow Basin Resort, UT.

Eccles’ involvement with Utah’s non-profit community includes his chairmanship of the Salt Lake Chamber’s International Committee and service on its Board of Governors and Executive Committee. He is also a board member of the Alf Engen Ski Museum and the Ogden Pioneer Heritage Foundation. Since 1985, von der Esch has served as director of the Utah Film Commission. She was president of the Association of Film Commissioners International from 1990-1996. In her new role, von der Esch will continue to oversee the Utah Film Commission. Before joining the state, von der Esch was the executive director of the Office of the Salt Lake City Council from 1980-1985. She was recently honored as one of the “30 Women to Watch” in Utah by Utah Business Magazine and the Salt Lake Chamber.

Co-Founder of Millenniata

Barry Lunt, a BYU information technologies professor and co founder of Millenniata, a compnay that produces a disc just like a CD or DVD that will last up to 1,000 years. He learned, through his seven years working for IBM in computer data, that data on CDs and DVDs would decay and be lost over just a few years because of optical discs’ ephemeral qualities, such as when they are exposed to sunlight and humidity.

KELLY McCRYSTAL

Kelly served as a Senior Project Manager and Software Developer at Panther Software from 1997 to 2006. Kelly managed the construction and launch of large-scale online initiatives for Ticketmaster, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Match.com, Citysearch, EDS, BMC Software and CBS News. Favorite projects included Virgin Atlantic’s first online booking engine and Leading Hotels of the World’s online reservation system. SANDRA SCHULLBERG

Film Producer & President of Schullberg Productions

Sandra Schulberg is one of the most productive film producers in the U.S. and Europe, Sandra was a leader of the American independent film movement in the late 70’s, when she founded the Independent Feature Project, and created the first IFP Market, she also co-founded the niche film distribution company, First Run Features. Sandra served on the Sundance Festival Advisory Committee, Board of ITVS (Independent Television Service), and was a founding board member of the New York Documentary Center and its Docfest film festival. In 1989, Schulberg joined the PBS feature film series “American Playhouse” as Managing Director of international operations.

Sandra Schulberg & Josh Waletzky have re-constructed and resorted the 1948 documentary Nuremberg: Its Lesson for Today, about the first Nuremberg trial. This unique film will be shown at 6 PM, March 9, 2010 as part of the PushButton Digital Media Summit.

Vice President, Business Development of Smart Bomb Interactive

Clark Stacey began his career as the co-owner of Beyond Games, a Salt Lake City based game studio that specialized in FPS and vehicle combat titles, including BattleWheels, Redline, Motor Mayhem, and Hot Wheels: Velocity X. In 2003 he formed the company Smart Bomb Interactive with key personnel from Beyond Games. As the Vice President and Creative Director for Smart Bomb, Clark handles business development for the studio in addition to overseeing design on game titles currently in development across all current and next-generation platforms. He also serves as the President and Lead Designer of Cobalt Interactive, which has developed advergames and edutainment properties such as Cap’n Crunch’s Crunchling Adventure and the Math-A-Thon series.

KENT THOMAS

Kent is the founder and CEO of CFO Solutions, L.C. which is a consulting firm dedicated to providing the finance and accounting needs for over 80 active clients on an outsourced / part-time basis. With CFO Solutions’ assistance, their clients have raised nearly $500 Million in equity, debt and lease financing. Kent is currently the Acting CFO of three client companies.

Kent started his career with Ernst & Whinney in 1979 and has a BS in Accounting from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Utah and is a licensed CPA in Utah. Kent is a member of the v|Spring v|100 and serves in many voluntary roles in an effort to give back to the business community. Kent is a founding member of the Olympus Angel Investors and is active in the Utah entrepreneurial community where he advises companies, associations, and educational institutions and is a frequent speaker on finance, accounting and entrepreneurship.

Hal Widlansky is a serial entrepreneur and an active member of the Utah investment community. He is currently CEO of Mangia Technologies, as well as managing director of Olympus Angel Investors. He also serves as a member of the Utah Centers of Excellence Advisory Council at the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and frequently advises companies, institutional investors, and entrepreneurs on business strategy. He was formerly the CEO of SonoMetric Health, a medical imaging software company, global director of SonoSite Ultrasound’s cardiology unit, and director of local market partnerships at Citysearch, the leading online city guide network.

Jeff Yamada leads a team of highly talented developers building interactive experiences and user interactions that people talk about. Prior to StruckAxiom he gained experience at companies like RED, Schematic, Designory, and Microsoft. As a developer Jeff enjoys bringing technical solutions to the table when solving creative problems. Jeff started out as a designer some time ago, but has been programming since high school and quickly became obsessed with creative programming. In 2008 Jeff Co-authored the Adobe AIR Bible, a reference guide to getting started with the Adobe Integrated Runtime using Flex, Flash, and HTML/JS and how to approach desktop development using web development tools to integrate rich interactive experiences with the power of desktop applications.

BRENT ADAMS

Director of the BYU Center for Animation

Brent Adams specializes in the mentoring of students of BYU in the visualization aspect of the creation of animated short films. Brent’s most recent accomplishments include overseeing the production of Student Emmy Award winning animations “Lemmings”, “Petshop” and “Noggin”. Brent is currently helping to oversee two more short films which include “”Pinata” and “Pajama Gladiator.” Brent received his BFA in ‘Environmental Design’ and his MFA in ‘Fine Art’ from the University of Utah. He is currently a Professor of Industrial Design /Animation and teaches courses in 3-D Computer Graphics.

T. CRAIG BOTT

CEO & President of Grow Utah Ventures

Craig has provided senior level management advice and counsel on strategy, marketing and management to hundreds of emerging and expanding businesses throughout the western United States. He directed Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneurial Management consulting services and owned and operated his own successful consulting business for many years. He has operated and led numerous companies in the areas of software technology, consumer electronics, services, and most recently wireless broadband.

He has advised and consulted with numerous civic and community leaders on how best to strengthen and grow their economic and business base and achieve job growth. He has directly advised the Utah Governor’s Office on strategies to strengthen and expand the Information Technology and Aerospace industries of the state. He is a nationally published author, and as acted as an adjunct professor at Weber State and Brigham Young.

Craig Caldwell comes from Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia where he was Head of the largest Film School in Australia. The Griffith Film School is known for its interdisciplinary collaboration in Film, Animation and Games with close industry connections. His recent industry experience has been as 3D Technology Specialist in Disney Academy for Walt Disney Feature Animation in Burbank, CA (Tarzan, Dinosaur, Atlantis, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt) and Creative Training at Electronic Arts.

CHRIS JOHNSON

Director, Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute for University of Utah

Chris Johnson directs the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah. Dr. Johnson founded the SCI research group in 1992, which has since grown to become the SCI Institute employing over 155 faculty, staff and students. Professor Johnson serves on several international journal editorial boards, as well as on advisory boards to several national and international research centers. In 2003 he received the Distinguished Professor Award from the University of Utah. In 2004 he was elected a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, 2005 he was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and in 2009 he was elected a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and received the Utah Cyber Pioneer Award.

STEVE ROY

Director of The Utah Science Technology and Research initiative (USTAR)

Steven Roy is the director of USTAR outreach and innovation activities in central Utah including the Mountainland Region. In this capacity he works with private and public leaders to help build businesses in key economic clusters that add to the economic and employment base in Central Utah. He has a keen interest in making sure that entrepreneurs and ideas emanating from his region are connected to the state’s innovation and research network. Prior to assuming this position Roy was a certified Six Sigma Black Belt employed by Sun Microsystems, Inc. Kyle Snarr began his branding and advertising career as a film student where he created several award-winning student films. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Media Arts and a minor in Advertising. After graduation Kyle was invited back to BYU to teach Introduction to Film as an adjunct staff member in the Media Arts Department. Collaborations with fellow BYU students in the graphic design department helped lead to the creation of StruckAxiom, a creative agency noted for its groundbreaking interactive design. During his time at StruckAxiom he has produced work that has won the Cannes Gold Lion and London International Award.
